Ukulele Arrangements
I like to do arrangements of music for the ukulele. Most of the pieces I do are under copyright, so I can’t post them here. Here are the ones I can.
I use the amazing LilyPond to do the music engraving.
Warnings and caveats:
- I’m completely untrained, musically, so you will doubtless find many errors and awkwardnesses (especially in terms of harmony).
- I’m not a very good uke player, and can’t always really even play my own arrangements, so expect awkward fingerings, impossibilities, etc.
- I play a tenor uke and am devoted to low-G linear tuning (gc’e’a’); most people use high-G reentrant tuning. So far, all my arrangements are for low-G.
Moussorgsky, Modeste: “The Old Castle” (1874)
From Pictures at an Exhibition.
Transcribed from the original piano. Easy; my most playable (out-of-copyright) transcription.
Moussorgsky, Modeste: “Promenade I” (1874)
From Pictures at an Exhibition.
Transcribed from the original piano. This one is pretty playable.
Grieg, Edvard: “Erotik” (1886)
Grieg, Edvard: “Wedding Day at Troldhaugen” (1896)
From Lyric Pieces, Opus 65.
Transcribed from the original piano. I certainly can’t play this at anything like the intended speed, but the tranquillo at bar 57 is easy and quite lovely.
Holst, Gustav: “Thaxted” (1916)
From The Planets.
This is the central Andante Maestoso from Jupiter, transcribed from the original orchestral version. Pretty playable.
Satie, Erik: “1.ère Gymnopédie (Lent et douloureux)” (1888)
Transcribed from the original piano and transposed from D to C.
Griffes, Charles Tomlinson: “The Lake at Evening” (1915)
From Three Tone-Pictures, Opus 5, by the Debussy of Elmira, NY.
Transcribed from the original piano.
